The Hingham Farmers Market (HFM) is entering a new chapter with a very familiar face leading the way. We are thrilled to introduce Mike Anderson as our third Market Manager.
From Macarons to Management
Mike is a man who already knows the heart of our market from the inside out. Many of you will recognize him and his wife, Jess, as the duo behind Farmhouse Baking. Their macarons (and more) quickly became a Saturday morning staple for HFM market goers. While their products will be missed on the tables this year, Mike is channeling that same skill and passion into a much larger recipe: the market itself.
“I’m loving this job,” Mike shared, and it shows. He has already hit the ground running, issuing 70 invitations to a vibrant mix of farmers, food purveyors, local artisans, and community groups. He’s also hard at work curating a diverse lineup of local musicians to provide the perfect soundtrack for your Saturday visits.
Strength in Experience
While the market looks effortless on market mornings, the role of Market Manager requires many skills to successfully manage a complex puzzle of logistics and safety. Mike’s responsibilities include processing applications and collaborating with the HFM Vendor Committee to ensure a high-quality variety of goods; meticulously verifying Board of Health permits and insurance certificates so our community can shop with confidence; and designing the physical market footprint to ensure a smooth flow each market Saturday.
HFM President Bev Vernon knows that successful market management requires a steady hand. “Juggling the demands of this position, especially at the start of the season, is no small feat,” says Vernon. “Once summer is in full swing, the market finds its rhythm. Preparation is what makes it possible. Mike is rising to the challenge beautifully, and our community is stronger for it.”
