The dilapidated harbormaster shack on Town Wharf used during the summer boating season has been unloved for years, in part due to the uncertainty of when the Wharf will be re-build. With greater clarity, we now know it will be at least another three years or more before the Town expects to proceed on re-building the wharves in the inner harbor.

With no money in the Town budget to address the shortcomings of the harbormaster shack season, Eagle Scout candidate Jake Correnti showed strong interest and initiative in making this forlorn harbormaster shack something the Town can be proud of, including the sourcing of a vintage looking Harbormaster sign. For transient boaters visiting Hingham’s downtown area, it is the first thing they will see when they come up the ramp from the town docks, and something many of the walkers in the harbor remember as they pass by along the edge of the wharf. The Harbormaster looks forward to having a presence at Town Wharf next boating season.

The Hingham Harbor Development Committee commends  Jake for scoping out the project, raising the money, and completing the renovation with a level of skill expected only from a professional. We are grateful for Jake’s efforts, and wish Jake much success in his journey of becoming an Eagle Scout. The Town of Hingham owes Jake a debt of gratitude.
