Hingham’s “Spirits of ‘76” to Screen at Loring Hall!
On Sunday, September 20 at noon, Loring Hall in Hingham Square presents the premiere of “Spirits of ‘76,” a special documentary produced by Harbor Media as part of Hingham’s 250th celebrations. Eileen McIntyre, an active member of Friends of Old Ship Meeting House and Hingham Historical Society, created a docent-led walking tour of Hingham Cemetery that highlights fascinating life stories of some of the Hingham residents who lived during the time of the American Revolution. The one-day-only tour was held on a warm Saturday in June, with welcoming remarks in the 1681 Meeting House and notable Hingham history buffs as docents staged throughout the cemetery.
To capture the event for posterity, Harbor Media created an hour-long documentary that features beautifully-filmed scenery, many of the stories, and additional commentary by nationally-recognized Hingham historian Jim Conroy. The walking tour and the party preceding it raised significant funds for Old Ship Meeting House and the Cemetery in June; this is our one chance to experience it enhanced on the big screen, free of charge.
