Vote by Mail applications from the town clerk’s office have been arriving in citizens’ mailboxes recently. The state primary is Tuesday, Sept. 1. (see details below).

Those who submitted Vote by Mail applications this year prior to an earlier election will continue to receive ballots by mail – for all 2026 elections.
It’s important for college students and others who will be leaving Hingham in late August to think about the timing. “We anticipate sending out the mail-in ballots in early August,” Town Clerk Carol Falvey said.
Those who will still be in Hingham until mid-August might consider having the ballot sent to their home address for the September 1 primary. “Our experience during the 2024 September primary was that many college and university post offices returned ballots mailed out in early August because the semester hadn’t officially started and/or the students hadn’t arrived on campus when the ballots arrived,” Falvey explained.
State primary
The state primary is Tuesday, Sept. 1. In-person voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following locations:
* Precincts 1-4 – Hingham High School, 17 Union Street
* Precincts 5-7 – Hingham Middle School, 1103 Main Street
* Precinct 7A – Willard Square, Linden Ponds, 201 Linden Ponds Way
New primary ballot colors will begin with the Sept. 1 primary. Massachusetts General Law requires that primary ballots for each party be of different colors. This change is expected to hep reduce confusion when ballots are provided to voters.
