The Hingham Memorial Bell Tower will host an Open House on July 18th from 9 AM to 11 AM. This is an opportunity to tour Hingham’s historic tower and learn about the art of English Change Ringing. Bell Ringing Classes will start in September and sign-up sheets will be available at the open house.
English Change Ringing is a unique blend of music, teamwork, physical coordination and rhythm. We’ll teach you how to control the swinging bells to create the beautiful patterns of tones that emerge from the different methods.
Our Memorial Bells were first rung in 1912 to celebrate the 275th anniversary of the founding of Hingham. They were conceived as a memorial-with-a-voice, but they can only speak when members of the community gather at the tower and ring the bells.
