OBITUARY: Cas Gabriele

Cas Gabriele, of Hingham and Pembroke, passed away on June 6, 2026, at the age of 89.

Born in Orange, New Jersey, Cas was the son of the late Gaspare and Anna (Fiore) Gabriele. A longtime resident of Hingham, Cas was married to Maryann Gabriele for more than 60 years. Together they raised their family in Hingham, creating a warm and welcoming home filled with music, laughter, and love.

Cas was the devoted father of Andrea Gabriele of Pembroke and her partner, Jamie Geary; Paul Gabriele of Abington and his partner, Pam Bouget; and Jocelyn Flaherty and her husband, Coleman, of Hingham. He was the proud grandfather of Harrison Gabriele and Sydney Flaherty. Cas is also survived by his sister, Anne Berkowitz of Manchester, New Jersey, and was predeceased by his sisters Margaret Montecalvo and Catherine Brady. He was uncle to many nieces and nephews and shared a special bond with his nephews in Naples, Florida: Robert, Raymond, and Richard Montecalvo.

Cas graduated from Rutgers University in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree. One of his earlier careers had him at Waldoroth Label Corporation, where he managed the account and produced many of the printing and advertising specialty items for the 1980 Lake Placid Olympic Games, a role he took great pride in. He later co‑founded an advertising specialty company with Maryann, and together they ran the business for many years.

Music was woven through Cas’s life. Like his father, he could play the piano by ear, and his family fondly remembers the sound of him playing drifting through their Hingham home. Cas loved theater and singing, and he performed in numerous productions with the Hingham Civic Music Theatre, including Cabaret and Guys & Dolls.

Cas was also an avid tennis player and a longtime member of the Old Colony Tennis Club in Hingham, where he formed many lasting friendships. He especially cherished the camaraderie he found through tennis and his regular poker games with friends.

Above all, Cas will be remembered for his warmth, quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and deep devotion to his family and friends. His presence, humor, and music will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him. His family extends their heartfelt thanks to Croí Health & Hospice and to all who have offered support, and kept Cas in their thoughts during this time.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, June 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond Street, Hingham, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection Parish, 1057 Main Street, Hingham. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
