Old Ship Church, a Unitarian Universalist congregation that meets in Old Ship Meeting House,
Hingham Square, traditionally holds an annual Pride celebration of joyful support for the
LGBTQIA+ community, our families and friends. Old Ship’s Spiritual Exploration Team and Rev.
Carie Johnsen are planning a wonderful and meaningful celebration on June 14th this year, and
we are excited to warmly invite the greater community from across the South Shore to join us.
Festivities will begin in the Meeting House at 90 Main Street, Hingham, at 10:30 am, where we
will gather young and elder for our annual Flower Communion Sunday Service. We’ll
acknowledge the wonder, beauty and promise of Spring and weave themes celebrating love in
all its forms, by collectively creating a glorious spring bouquet. Attendees are encouraged to
bring a flower with them (some flowers will also be provided if you forget), to participate in the
ceremony.
After the service, weather permitting, we will all head outside for a festive Pride Picnic to
celebrate LOVE. On the sunny lawn and under the shade trees of the Meeting House, we will
have games, beverages, art and music for all ages! We’ll groove to tunes by DJHoney, a
grandpa from Hull, and make a canvas banner that will hang on the railing of the Meeting
House in Hingham Square throughout Pride month. Please bring a picnic lunch and blanket or
beach chairs and a joyful heart. Dancing and socializing will be encouraged. We look forward to
welcoming you at one or both of these fun events. For more info, visit oldshipchurch.org.
