The select board this week proclaimed Saturday, May 23, as Maddie’s Promise Day in recognition of Maddie’s Promise, a non-profit organization inspired by, and started in memory of, Hingham resident Maddie McCoy, who passed on in May 2019 at the age of 11 from a rare pediatric cancer.
The proclamation read by the board honors Maddie for her “courage, gentle spirit, and generosity in bringing a smile to everyone she met.”
Maddie, who created art to sell to raise money for pediatric cancer while receiving treatment at Boston Children’s Hospital, was an inspiration to all who met her and hear about her courageous battle with pediatric cancer.
