As the school year begins to wind down, Hingham’s fifth graders got an early taste of middle school community spirit with pizza, music, kickball, and plenty of cheering.
Students from Foster, East, South, and Plymouth River School came together during Wednesday’s half-day for an afternoon filled with fun, including snow cones, snacks, tug of war, and a friendly kickball showdown between the schools. Organizer, Kristan Fletcher shared, “While PRS ultimately took home the win, and bragging rights along with the new traveling trophy, the real victory was the sense of connection and camaraderie shared among the students.”
The event was created as a way to bring the incoming classmates together before they reunite next year in middle school, helping build friendships and school spirit across the elementary schools. Originally launched in 2024, organizers hope this year’s successful return marks the beginning of a new annual tradition for Hingham’s fifth graders.
And in true championship fashion, the winning school will now hold a traveling trophy that will move from school-to-school each year (Stanley Cup style).
