Next Monday, April 27th, we will begin Hingham’s Annual Town Meeting at the high school. You, the voters, will decide a host of items, set forth in 38 articles. Among these are a proposed operating budget of more than $173 million; whether to appropriate funds for a new Center for Active Living off Bare Cove Park Drive; and recommendations of the Community Preservation Committee. Other decisions to be made involve work at the library and in our schools, the potential disposition of town-owned real estate, land use questions, major capital projects at the town’s water and electric utilities, issues involving our town employees, and whether to authorize funds to pay for electronic voting devices for use at town meeting. And there’s more, all set forth in the warrant that was mailed to your home and is readily available on-line at the town’s website.
Please be sure to check in by 6:30, so we can start promptly at 7:00 PM.
Open Town Meeting remains a pure exercise in self-government, a right and a responsibility that should never be taken for granted.
Please take part in the meeting, where these critical decisions will be made, and encourage others to do so, as well. It won’t be the same without you.
