Carol Britton Meyer recently connected with local artist Marisa DeAngelo. Here you can learn more about her favorite Hingham restaurant, her hidden talent, and what makes her artwork unique.
Name of Business: Flowers that Never Fade Away
Location: Retail – Artisans in the Square, South Street in downtown Hingham; studio – “Arnold Shoeworks” Building, 200 Wales Street, Abington
Why did you choose Artisans as your place of business? Artisans in the Square is a beautiful artist co-op store that showcases a talented group of artisans. I was honored to be accepted and am grateful for this opportunity to show my work alongside artists I admire.
What makes your artwork unique? I paint flowers that can be given as gifts – what I like to call a simple fusion of beauty and meaning. Instead of giving real flowers, you can send “Flowers that Never Fade Away,” creating a lasting memory. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, hand-painted in acrylic, accented with gold leaf, and sealed in resin. The backs of the frames are engraved and hand-signed, and each painting comes elegantly packaged in a beautiful box. Along with the artwork, a personal note and a description of the chosen flowers are included, making the gift even more meaningful.
The concept is simple: to send flowers in the form of art, so their beauty and the memory they represent can last forever. My flower paintings are colorful and happy. The size is just right for displaying on a wall, shelf, or windowsill. Some people choose flowers that complement the décor, while others are looking for a splash of color. They make a great gift, and many people purchase them for themselves and even collect them. They’re about sharing love.
What does your artwork offer to customers? “Flowers That Never Fade Away” offers a one-of-a-kind alternative to real flowers. Some people can’t receive fresh flowers due to allergies or pets or hospital stays where flowers aren’t allowed.
They’re also thoughtful remembrance gifts. One customer wanted to send gifts to her niece and nephews whose parents had passed. They were all in different parts of the country, and these flowers were a perfect gesture to say “I care.”
Some ask for a handwritten personal inscription on the back, which I am happy to write. For weddings, I can add the couple’s names and wedding date.
I’m often asked to include the name and date on the back for memorials.
They make great birthday, anniversary, and housewarming gifts. Businesses purchase them as client appreciation gifts as well.
Favorite part of owning your own business: The freedom to create at my own pace. Inspiration comes at different times, in various places, and in many ways. I love painting and spreading the joy.
What makes downtown Hingham unique? The people! It’s wonderful to see them out strolling on the sidewalks enjoying their town. Everyone’s lovely and neighborly. I enjoy the quaint setting and rich history of the area. It’s really fun on the days I work at Artisans in the Square, because I always meet someone new and interesting.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time? Besides painting . . . hands-down, I love the beach! Cape Cod National Seashore beaches on the Outer Cape are among the most beautiful in the world. Nantasket Beach is also very special to me.
Favorite Hingham restaurant and meal: Alma Nove has a great vibe! Everything on the menu is amazing! The homemade gnocchis are to die for.
Favorite Hingham local spot: The Beth – they offer a good local experience for whatever you’re up for, and it’s a great place to watch a game. Weekend brunch is excellent. And there’s nothing like enjoying a summertime dinner on the waterfront patio!
Favorite vacation destination: It’s difficult to choose just one. I love Italy! There are so many unique cities and towns that make the country of my ancestry a wonderful adventure! The Greek islands are also super fun. I always love to go there! For a quick beach getaway, I enjoy Southwest Florida.
Do you have any hidden talent? Yes, I like to sew. I spent my career in the fashion industry, and when I have the time, I make many of my own clothes.
Interesting fact about you that others may not know: I love to contemplate the mysteries of God’s creation – the wonder and beauty in people and nature.
Is there anything else you’d like to share? New flowers are always in the works, with more choices available on my website. Flowers from the collection on my website are also available for pickup at Artisans in the Square or from my studio.
Simply indicate your preference on the order, and let me know if you’d like to add a personal note and if you wish to have anything inscribed on the back.
Each month I send an email showcasing my latest flower designs. All are invited to join the email list through my website – www.flowersthatneverfade.com
