Douglas Allan Brash, of Hingham, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday December 18th, 2025.
Allan was born in Everett, Massachusetts, on April 7th 1935. He spent his early years growing up in Newton, before later settling in Hingham. Some of his happiest memories were made during summers in Wellfleet, spent year after year on Nauhaught Bluff Road. Those summers became a cherished tradition, filled with time by the ocean, family gatherings, and moments that will be remembered by all family and friends who shared them with him. He built a long and distinguished career at John Hancock, where he held a leadership role for 39 years.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents, Duncan and Ernestine Brash. He is survived by his sister, Susan Milroy of Florida with whom he shared a close bond. (Davis) Allan is lovingly survived by his 5 children; Sharon MacDonald of Plymouth, Sue Anne Spath of Hingham, Stacey McNamee of Hanover, Scott Brash of Norwell and Steven Brash and his wife Barbara of Pembroke. He was also cherished by 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He loved to travel and especially his trips to China, where he greatly enjoyed vacationing. At home, he found equal joy in his hobbies, particularly gold coin and stamp collecting for his love of history. He spent the final few months of his life at Allerton House in Hingham, where he truly thrived. He formed friendships and participated in many activities with the community.
Allan proudly served in the United States Army, dedicating himself to his country with honor and commitment.
Services will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
