Back in the 17 th Century, the Accord Brook was dammed creating Triphammer Pond. The pond was named for the sawmill that was powered by the stored water running through a mill race and activating a ‘triphammer.’ This picture was taken about 1917 by the noted bird carver Russ Burr. He and his friends had a small hunting shack on the island. The Hingham Center locals also called the White Pine trees in the background “Marble’s Pines” after another Hingham Center character, Charles Marble. Today the shack is gone, and the pond is surrounded by public land. You can reach it off Pope’s Lane and it is perfect for that after turkey dinner hike. This photograph is from the Hingham Historical Society Archives.
