Left to right standing is Ralph W. Leigh and Lemuel Aston Dill, and seated is Capt. of Co. K Ernest E. Lincoln and 2nd Lieut. Of Co. K George Melcher. They all were members of Hingham Engine 1. Lincoln, Melcher and Dill joined Company K, Massachusetts Volunteer Militia and Leigh joined the navy and were part of the Mexican border war of 1917. When they returned to Hingham a turkey supper was held in their honor in Combination 1’s firehouse. At the dinner these men gave a brief description of their experiences in the service. Then, Hingham Fire Lieut. Farnham gave a talk upon the vacuum (cleaner) of pumping motors in fire service. According to the newspapers: “During the evening there were many jokes passed, and the event was one of joy and gratification in having among us once again the boys who marched away in June with the expectation of a long sojourn along the Mexican border.” The photograph is from the Bare Cove Fire Museum.
