Mary “Betty” McGloan Foley, 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Betty was born on November 12, 1948, to Louise (Forrest) and Norman “Lorne” McGloan of Belmont, MA. She graduated Arlington Catholic High School class of 1966, followed by Regis College class of 1970. Betty went on to break down barriers as a leading woman in a traditionally male business at Sunoco. After leaving Sunoco, she dedicated many years to serving the Town of Hingham as Assistant Town Administrator, humbly flying under the radar as she managed the town’s affairs.
Betty was always quick to help others less fortunate than herself. She spent many years helping to organize the Giving Tree at Christmastime at St Paul’s in Hingham, and dedicated her weekends to stocking the Hingham Interfaith Food Pantry.
While dedicated to her work and community, Betty’s true passion was her family – her husband of 49 years and their children. In recent years, she has blessed the lives of her loving grandchildren. All of whom believed she could do anything – and they were right.
Betty leaves behind her devoted husband Tom, her children Katie Ferrari (Bill), Tommy Foley (Erica), and Elizabeth Rubertone (Chris), and her beautiful grandchildren Thomas, Will, Anna, Mae, and Benjamin. She also leaves behind her loving cousins Tim Stevens (Carol), Dottie Sullivan (John), and Jack Forrest (Deb). She will be missed by her sisters – in – law Pat (Paul), Marie (Charlie), and Kathy (George). Betty and Tom made a beautiful home for their family in Hingham, where they were fortunate enough to live next to their dear friends Bob, Ginny, and Katie Egan.
In the spirit of Betty’s warmth and generosity, her family asks that you honor her memory by continuing to do the next right thing and to take care of one another. She undoubtedly made the world a better place, and her influence will be felt for generations to come.
If you wish to do something in Betty’s memory, please consider donating to the Hingham Interfaith Food Pantry.
