On Friday, September 19, more than 250 guests gathered under a beautiful sailcloth tent on Hingham Harbor for Raise the Anchor—a celebration of community, connection, and the vital role of our local news. The Anchor’s first-ever fundraiser was nothing short of spectacular, with the dance floor packed until the final song and an outpouring of generosity from across town.

Guests enjoyed an incredible spread of local bites generously donated by local restaurant partners including Tosca, Ironwood, The Beth, Clandestine Kitchen, and Knead Bakery & Bistro. From Ironwood’s Nashville Hot Chicken Sliders and Clandestine Kitchen’s Thai Peanut Noodles to The Beth’s Tuna Poke, Tosca’s Beach House Sliders and Sweet Corn Ravioli, to specialty desserts from Knead Bakery, the offerings were extraordinary—many guests remarked it was the best food they had ever had at an event! The Hingham Hostess Helpers provided the best local student servers throughout the event.

The ocean breeze, music by “Endless Summer,” and the gorgeous Hingham Harbor views created an unforgettable backdrop for the launch of the Anchor Community Media Fund, a 501(c)(3) fiscally sponsored fund by our friends at Harbor Media, created to ensure local journalism remains not only afloat, but thriving here in Hingham. This milestone night would not have been possible without the support of so many generous sponsors. Our remiere event sponsors included Winters Properties, Enterprise Equipment, The Kanter Family, Kevin Lewis Real Estate, and Sweeney Merrigan LLP. We are also grateful to the many businesses that donated services—including Atlantic Mobile Restrooms, Lisa Corrado Design, and Stephanie Olsen Photography—as well as countless other community partners who stepped up to make the event a success.

For more than five years, the Anchor has been woven into Hingham’s daily life—documenting history as it happens, celebrating the people and events that make our town unique, covering breaking news, amplifying community voices, spotlighting local businesses and nonprofits, and tackling the issues that matter most to our readers. Your support has fueled this work. By reading, sharing stories, sending in ideas and opinions, and cheering us on, you’ve helped the Anchor become not just a news source, but a true community platform. For that, we are profoundly grateful.

As the media landscape grows more challenging, we’re often asked how readers can support the Anchor financially in lieu of a subscription. This event was our first major step—and you can still be part of it. Donations to the Anchor Community Media Fund are tax-deductible and will help support independent local news. Contributions can be made here: https://anchor-media.fundjournalism.org/donate/.
We’d love your support. Thank you for continuing to help us Raise the Anchor!
