The town recently received a first round of bids in response to an Invitation for Bids to build the new South Shore Country Club pool, Town Administrator Tom Mayo told the select board last night.
“Unfortunately, the lowest responsive bid was in excess of the town’s appropriations for the project. We have rejected the bids and plan to issue a new IFB in the coming weeks in the hopes of receiving a qualified bid within our appropriation,” Select Board Chair William Ramsey told the Hingham Anchor.
Voters at the 2022 Town Meeting appropriated an amount not to exceed $8 million for the town-owned pool facility.
Because the Community Preservation Committee’s $550,000 pool funding recommendation passed under Article 17, the figure named in the related warrant article decreased by that amount.
The plan includes a handicapped-accessible six-lane, 25-yard lap pool, a zero-depth entry pool, a bathhouse, equipment storage building, and a splash pad.
While the timeframe for the new pool is as yet undetermined, the goal is to have the pool ready “as soon as possible,” Ramsey said earlier. “We’re all hopeful that it will be open by next season.”

New assistant town administrator resigns
Mayo also announced that new Assistant Town Administrator for Finance Brittany Iacaponi is resigning effective the end of November.
“In her short time with us, Brittany has been a positive member of the team, and we are sorry to see her leave,” Mayo said. “We will begin the search for a assistant town administrator for finance as soon as possible.”
There is limited parking for the golf/bowling/function facility…..the footprint is too small for this size project…..which I am in favor of……but please put it in an area where there is enough land…across st at bare cove?
