Carol Britton Meyer recently connected with photographer Alyssa Fortin. You can learn more about Alyssa below — what her work involves, her favorite vacation destination, and what she enjoys doing most in her spare time!

Name of your business: Alyssa Fortin Photography

What your work involves: I specialize in large-format fine art photography that blends storytelling, movement, and emotion, most notably through my underwater series featuring ballet dancers. My current work is deeply conceptual and often explores themes of femininity, resilience, and transformation, using the water’s natural distortion to create dreamlike, abstract imagery.

While I began my career in lifestyle and portrait photography, my artistic focus has evolved into creating work for galleries and collectors, with limited-edition prints exhibited and sold across the country.

Favorite part of your job: The best part of what I do is connecting with the people I photograph. I love collaborating to create something that feels deeply personal and expressive. Watching a concept come to life, particularly in an underwater session where anything can happen, is incredibly rewarding.

What you hope to/have accomplished so far with your photography: Through my work, I hope to uplift, inspire, and empower women. I’ve transitioned from running a successful portrait photography business in Hingham to exhibiting my fine art photography in galleries and national art shows. Seeing my underwater series connect with people on an emotional level and on such a wide scale has been one of my proudest accomplishments.

How you work with clients for the best possible photos: I’m always open to experimentation. In underwater sessions, for instance, I shoot hundreds (sometimes thousands) of frames so we can discover the moments that feel just right. I believe in making the process collaborative, natural, and pressure-free.

Do you have any pets? I have a 12-year-old dog named Otis. He’s a lovable but mischievous companion who’s been my best friend for the past 12 years.

What makes Hingham unique? I love Hingham’s small-town charm, with its 300-year-old homes, safe streets, and strong sense of community. It’s a place where everyone knows each other, and kids can ride their bikes freely.

What do you enjoy most doing in your spare time? I’m an avid runner and have met many friends and made meaningful connections through running in Hingham. It’s a great way to stay active and build relationships.

Favorite Hingham restaurant and meal: My go-to spot is Square Café, just two blocks from my house. The food is excellent, and it’s convenient to walk there and back.

Favorite Hingham local spot: I love all the parks in Hingham, especially Wompatuck, World’s End, and Bare Cove. There are so many beautiful outdoor spaces to explore and enjoy.

Favorite vacation destination: We’re currently wintering in Costa Rica, which has been a great experience for learning about a new culture. However, I’m always up for traveling to new destinations — anywhere in the world is exciting to me!

Do you have a hidden talent? I’m proud of my ability to bring people together and build connections. I’m a bit of a collector of relationships and experiences.

Interesting fact about yourself that others may not know about: I’m one of six children, born fourth in line.
