Kids’ Cabaret presents Mary Poppins! More than 50 teens and kids from across the South Shore have come together to perform the timeless classic.
“It’s an incredible performance,” says Dahlia Hedrick, co-program director and rising Sophomore at Berklee College of Music. “It’s amazing to see kids who may never have done this kind of thing, really shine in the spotlight.”
“Kids’ Cab” is a treasured theater program run entirely by local teens. They own every job from directing and choreography to audio and lighting to props and music. “It’s a great starting point for kids who want to dive into the arts,” said Hedrick. “I did my first Kids’ Cab show when I was eight and now, I’m a program director.”
The actors are elementary, middle, and high schoolers who auditioned for their parts and have been rehearsing all summer. Co-program Director and rising Hingham High senior, Alec Whitmore, remembers when he was a young cast member at Kids’ Cab a decade ago. “I really looked up to the older kids–not only as performers, but people who inspired me,” said Whitmore. “It’s such a gift to see the older kids grow through the years and now they’re the ones inspiring the younger kids.”

11-year-old Andrew Cignetti plays Park Keeper. The rising Hingham Middle Schooler said, “I like how everyone is so energetic and positive and grateful to be here.” Rising Braintree High sophomore Adam Antonowicz, who plays Bert, agrees. “It’s really inclusive,” he says. “Everyone is kind. No matter what role you’re playing, you’re smiling and having fun.”
From “Jolly Holiday,” to “Chim Chim Cher-ee” to “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” there are big group dance numbers and whimsical costumes. Ella Montgomery, a rising sophomore at Hull High School plays Nelius and Mrs. Lark. “I love the music for this show, and everyone works so hard on the dances,” she says. “It’s great to see the harmony of people who have a passion for acting.”
Lucy Donnelly, a rising eighth grader at Hingham Middle School, plays Mary Poppins. “There are kids of all ages cheering each other on,” she said. “Everyone is working so hard to help things come together for an awesome show.”

“Come see the show to feel that energy,” says co-program director Whitmore. “You will love it. It’s an impressive display of what kids in our community can do––together.”
Performances run Thursday through Saturday night at Hingham High School. Curtain rises at 7pm with one intermission. Get tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/kids-cabaret-presents-mary-poppins-tickets-1384115479659
