Obituary: Carol Buchwalter

Carol Buchwalter, born on January 19, 1941 in Cambridge, MA, passed away peacefully in home hospice on July 9, 2025.. She was a cherished mother of Gregg Buchwalter, David Buchwalter, Alyse Sweeney, and Jill Buchwalter. She was the beloved daughter of Judith and Samuel Goodman. Carol shared a close bond with her late sister, Sandra Strauss. She adored her three grandchildren, Connor, Maddie, and Sam. She treasured her loving circle of friends.

Carol embraced life with enormous heart and humor. She was never afraid to radiate her unique love and compassion for all kinds of people, from her beloved inner-city students in Philadelphia in her early elementary-school teaching days to the residents at Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham, MA where she served as Activity Director for many years. Her capacity for patience and acceptance was extraordinary and freely expressed as a mother, teacher, facilitator, friend.

Carol often had a humorous take on situations and life. Her ability to laugh, and make others laugh, was a gift. She found joy in simple pleasures, and was especially exuberant for the ocean, Bloody Mary brunches, and her beloved Red Sox and Celtics. Her magnetic smile, warm heart, and depth of gratitude touched many.

Carol’s ashes will be released in North Carolina in a small, family memorial. Contributions in her memory can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
