The Pat Roche Hospice Home marks its 10th year of providing compassionate care and comfort to patients and families on the South Shore. The 12-bed historic home on Turkey Hill in Hingham was the first hospice residence in the region.

NVNA and Hospice opened the hospice home in a response to an immediate need in the community. While many think of hospice care as taking place in one’s home, that’s not always an option or the right choice for families. Trying to help coordinate care in between hospice at- home visits can be overwhelming for some. As such, with over a century of clinical excellence, NVNA and Hospice recognized the opportunity to elevate the standard of care for terminally ill patients.

The residence is based on a hospice philosophy that is immersed in clinical, emotional, and spiritual support, where families can surround loved ones in a home that is centered on the dignity of every patient’s death.

No patient is turned away for financial reasons. Through the generosity of donors and the leadership of the Charitable Fund Board of Trustees, more than $15 million has been raised in support of the home since 2013.

“Ten years is an important milestone. I am so grateful to our clinical team, families, volunteers, and donors who make this home possible every day,” said Renee McInnes, RN, CEO. NVNA and Hospice is the largest independent non-profit provider of home care and hospice services in the region, with a daily census of 820 patients.

The home’s tea room and music room recently underwent a renovation designed by Myra Leen with The Queen’s Garden. These common areas offer both patients and visitors a comfortable, quiet and reflective place gather. Updates were also made to all patient rooms.

The Pat Roche Hospice Home is named after the late Pat Roche, the co-founder of the Roche Bros. Supermarket chain, whose generous philanthropy was instrumental in establishing the home.
