Hingham cyclist Rich Chamberlain is ready to participate in this year’s Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) in support of patients battling cancer.

On August 5 and 6, Chamberlain will be back on the road – as part of Team South Shore Health – continuing his promise to fundraise for cancer care services and programs on the South Shore. This will be Chamberlain’s sixth year riding the PMC.

“I ride in the PMC because colorectal cancer took the life of my baby sister, Anne Tuite,” said Chamberlain. “Anne was born at South Shore Hospital, which is part of South Shore Health. I want to do my part to give back to the organization and help find a cure for this disease.”

This year’s PMC will include 16 pre-mapped, fully supported route options, ranging from 25 to 211 miles, with varying levels of fundraising goals. Riders have the opportunity to participate in the Reimagined Ride – which allows participants to chart their own route and conveniently customize the distance, location, and date of their ride. For those who can’t ride in-person, a virtual option with no fundraising minimum will allow cyclists to create their own route, log miles over time, or not get on a bike at all!

Last year, Team South Shore Health raised more than $260,000 for cancer care services and programs at the Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center in clinical affiliation with South Shore Health. To date, riders for the team have collectively raised more than $1.3 million over the last seven years.

“The funding we receive from Team South Shore Health is critical to the operations of the center and to so many other services we offer our patients,” said Jen Croes, Executive Director of the Weymouth cancer center. “It is truly remarkable to have a team of dedicated cyclists willing to ride for us! We are incredibly grateful for their unwavering support.”
